In 1649 Marie Chapelier arrived in New France as one of the Filles à Marier, under a marriage contract with Robert Drouin. The Filles à Marier were single women recruited by religious groups giving them an opportunity for a new life colonizing present-day Quebec in the early 1600’s. If she had not survived the arduous journey and braved the hardships of settling a new land, none of us DeRouins would be here! See more about her and her family by exploring the family tree.
